Role: Senior Cost Engineer/Estimator
Location: Edinburgh or London base but flexible on location
For the right candidate, we are open to this role being done on a part-time or associate basis as well as a full-time basis.

The Role
The role of Senior Cost Engineer/Estimator is a high-profile and influential role within the business. The cost environment has one of the most significant impacts on the current understanding and future direction of the energy business. With cost inflation having been c.30% p.a. for the past 4 years, the future direction of costs becomes crucial in understanding energy economics, development and acquisition decisions, future of supply and ultimately how that impacts the oil price.
As Wood Mackenzie becomes the complete authority on all commercial aspects of the energy industry, it is important that we have robust view on the future direction of costs in the industry. Fundamental to this view is a comprehensive cost estimating capability which underpins our commercial models and work. The role of the Senior Cost Engineer/Estimator will form a key element of this capability, working with the Senior Cost Analyst and wider business to enhance and further develop our internal cost estimating procedures, metrics and longer term cost forecasts.
Main Responsibilities
Prepare project cost estimates for a variety of current and future global oil and gas developments, using past experience, historical data, analogues, market pricing and parametric ratios
Primary focus would be feasibility and conceptual estimating, with occasional detailed work as required
Development of procedures and methodologies for cost estimates for both green and brown field projects
Contribute to analysis and development of future cost trends and forecasting.
Development and maintenance of an in-house cost estimating database
Benchmarking and reporting of internal project cost data
Development and delivery of best practice training course in cost estimation to internal business users
Support relevant consulting projects with cost estimating expertise
Knowledge, Experience and Skills
Candidates will be degree qualified and will have a minimum of 8 years oil and gas industry experience, gained from working in a cost estimating role. Particular experience in development of conceptual/pre-FEED cost estimation, across a variety of projects (offshore/onshore) is desirable.
